Painting has always been a cathartic process for me, a type of meditation and a way of shedding the images from my mind onto the paper or canvas.
Growing up in Chesterfield Britain, I was always drawing which led me to art college and then to University in Leeds in the north of England where I earned a BA in Design and continued to live for a further 8 years before moving to London. These two cities are reflected in my paintings both directly and indirectly as does the city that I currently live in Long Beach California and the greater metropolis of LA.
People always say on seeing my paintings "I understand you now" like there is some depth that is only expressed in my paintings - like having a deep conversation with someone, and I think that if people can relate to my paintings in this way then it is a way for me to reach out and connect.
